We invite you to this five-day course on global health issues using plenary discussions, workshops and mentoring sessions. It is intended primarily for students of medicine, nursing, dentistry, and other allied health professions in Southeast Asia and the Western-Pacific Region. It is envisioned as a way to deepen the participants’ understanding of health, thus preparing them to become more effective future health professionals.

Some of the Health Issues to be discussed:
Global Burden of Disease: prevention, management and control
Global Trends in Injuries and Accidents
The Impact of War and Conflict on Health
Natural Disasters and Calamities
Dynamics of Health and the Environment
Reproductive and Sexual Health
Health of Indigenous Peoples
Children’s Rights and Health

The course will be conducted in English.

Post-Course Workshop on Global Health Course Management
April 10, 2006
This workshop is intended for health professionals and students who are interested to start a similar course in their institutions. It includes basic principles in management, partnerships, and project proposal-making.

Post-Course Community Immersion in Rural areas in the Philippines
April 11-17, 2006
There is an option for participants to go on a 1-week immersion in a Community-Based Health Program. Participants will get to experience, first hand, health and social issues in rural communities. They will also see working community partnerships in health and development.
